Favored Hydrogen Defeats Welkin Sun in Brisbane Cup BRISBANE, Australia, May 4 Reuters. — E. R. Williams Hydrogen, son of the British sire, Delville Wood out of Sweet Sound, won the 6,880 Brisbane Cup here today before 35,000 in fine weather. The stake was run over two miles at the Eagle Farm course. Hydrogen, the 3 to 1 favorite, was taken to the front by jockey W. Williamson one and one -half furlongs from home and crossed the finish line by two and one-half lengths ahead of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Mac Raes Welkin Sun, held at 6 to 1. Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Eathers Maynard, a 12 to 1 chance, ran third, in a photo finish with Welkin Sun. i Hydrogens time of three minutes, 22 sec- ! onds was two and one-quarter seconds off the Australian and course records for the distance. Carrying 121 pounds, Hydrogen conceded three pounds to Welkin Sun and 14 to Maynard.
