Stablehand Wounded as Gun Goes Off Accidentally GROVE CITY, Ohio, May 4. — Danny Davis, 17, of Columbia, N. C, a stablehand in the employ of James Bronnenberg at Beulah Park, was admitted to Mt. Carmei Hospital in Columbus after he was wounded in the throat when a .22-caliber automatic rifle held by a co-worker discharged accidentally. The accident happened in a tack room in the Beulah stabling area. Franklin County sheriffs sergeant James Potts investigated the incident and said the shotting appeared to be an accident. Lyman Woods, 17, of Hamilton, Ohio, told Potts he picked up the gun and started to examine it, believing it was unloaded. The gun discharged, however, and the bullet struck Davis in the chin and lodged near his windpipe. Another 17-year-old, James Smith, Ur-bancrest, Ohio, witnessed the shooting and substantiated Woods story, Potts said. Mt. Carmei Hospital attaches reported Davis condition is good.
