Fairmount Park Opens Spring Meeting Tonight Sailors Delite and Nine Others Match Speed in Inaugural Purse By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 20. — Racing under lights gets under way tomorrow night here at Fairmount Park, the only track in this part of the country where thoroughbreds race at night. Fairmount officials have every reason to anticipate a most successful meeting for the spring 33-night session, due to the high caliber of horses in the 600 now assembled on the grounds. Nothing has been left undone to assure high class racing programs and comfort for the patrons. Headlining the opening night card is the Inaugural," which drew a .well-matched field of 10 sprinters with Arthur Dabbs consistent Sailors Delite, the probable choice. Assigned-114 pounds under the conditions of the Inaugural, the rapid son of Grand Admiral is expected to prove the one to down, since he performed with keen success at the recently concluded Sportsmans Park meeting in Chicago. A formidable rival for Sailors Delite is Obstinate Si, Continued on Page Forty-One 1 , Fairmount Park Opens Spring Meeting Tonight Sailors Delite and Nine Others Match Speed in Inaugural Purse Continued from Page One who will carry the. colors of Tom McCarty. The McCarty representative, with top weight of 119 pounds, downed a mediocre band of sprinters at Sportsmans Park, but since this was his first effort of the current season steady improvement is expected. N. L. Raffelmans Flaming Bush, 114 pounds, also raced with good success at Sportsmans Park and possesses keen early speed, which should make his rivals put forth their best if they are to reach the wire in van of the Raffelman colorbearer. Harold J. Etopinals Miss Taggs, 104 pounds, also a Chicago invader, has shown several keen attempts, but seems to tire in the late stages and must summon a little more courage if she is to down her Inaugural foes. The balance of the field is made up of T. J. Stewarts Peach Blossom, 104; Duke Pallets Kitty Ann, 102; J. E. Hills Doc Hill, 102; P. C. Reeds Seasoned, 112 pounds. Wild Teddy, from the Ted Koonce Stable, who draws 109 and J. C. Ellis Teapoy, assigned 114. Of the latter mentioned group, Wild Teddy seems the most formidable. Winner of two races over better-than-average sprinters at Sportsmans Park, the speedy daughter of Saladin seems to be improving with each effort and will undoubtedly command respect. Kitty Ann has shown good form at times earlier this year at New Orleans and, with her best try, could cause consternation to the field.
