I ! Joliet Stakes Renewal Promises Grudge Battle Everett Jr. and Mr. Prosecutor Set to Match Strides Saturday HAWTHORNE, Cicero, HI., May 20.— One of the many elements which make next Saturdays 5,000 Joliet Stakes one of the most interesting renewals in the 26 -year history of that Lincoln Fields fixture is the promise of a "grudge" battle between two of the leading candidates, Everett Jr. and Mr. Prosecutor. The former, owned by Everett Lowrance of New Orleans, kept his winning record intact by beating Mr. Prosecutor in Keene-lands Lafayette Stakes on April 22, but finished second to the latter in Churchill Downs Bashford Manor Stakes on May 9. Everett Jr. was the first two-year-old winner of 1953 and became the first juvenile stakes winner of the year when he won the Duncan P. Kenner Stakes at New Orleans. Mr. Prosecutor, owned by Mark Leach of Detroit, whose Green Acres Stock Farm is located at Paris, Ky., is due at Hawthorne tomorrow morning to keep his engagement in the Joliet, which is exclusively for colts and geldings and is the first two-year-old stakes of the Illinois season. Trainer Henry Forrest has engaged jockey John Adams to ride Mr. Prosecutor in the Joliet. Albert Popara will ride Everett Jr. Another prominent contender for the Joliet is S. A. Alexanders Sir Gallant, winner of three consecutive races at Oaklawn Park earlier in the year. Trainer George Stutts and Don MacAndrew, who rode Sir Gallant in his Hot Springs victories, will have the mount on the Alexander colt again.
