Name Forty-Five For Wilmington First Three to Finish in 52 Running Among Eligibles For Delaware Opening Stake STANTON, Del., May 20.— The 0,000 Wilmington Handicap, which will Again feature the May 29 opening program of Delaware Parks 32-day meeting, attracted 45 nominations, including the first three horses past the wire in the 1952 renewal, it was revealed by racing secretary J. Gilbert Haus. Also among the nominees are the winners of nine 1953 stakes up to mid-May. The representative list of 45 eligibles for the fifteenth running of the six-furlong speed test tops last years total by nine. In the 1952 version, F. Ambrose Clarks veteran Tea-Maker — who had finished second in 1951 — raced to victory in 1:10% to equal the fastest time ever made in the stake. Jet Master was the runner-up and Senator Joe third. The same three may again prove formidable this year. Tea-Maker, a former hurdler who was voted Americas champion sprinter last season in one national pool, is the oldest candidate for the 53 Wilmington, being 10 now. Nominees who already have captured stakes this year include Mrs. Samuel M. Pistorios Tuscany, winner of the Rowe Memorial and Toboggan Handicaps; Winding Way Farms Sagittarius, hero of the Jamaica Handicap and the New Years Handicap at Tropical Park; Brookmeade Stables First Aid, who accounted for divisions of Hialeahs Hibiscus and Bahamas; Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Post Card, winner of the Laurel Handicap and an old favorite at Delaware; Herman B. Delmans Roaming, the Churchill Downs Handicap victor, and Alfred G. Vanderbilts Indian Land, triumphant in the Camden Handicap. Yildiz Also Nominated Mrs. Jeffords also named another popular Delaware Park campaigner in Yildiz, who won the 1952 Brandywine Handicap at the Stanton oval. Post Card captured that race the previous year in a dead-heat with Cochise, and in 1950, as a three-year-old, took the Leonard Richards Stakes at the same track. Hyphasis, Northern Star, Brazen Brat, Landseair, Eatontown and numerous other well known sprint specialists also appear worthy of consideration for the first of Delaware Parks 14 stakes.
