Master Ace and Sagittarius also tried to run with the winner as the field sped from Floral Park toward the stands, while Tea-Maker swerved across the track, Delegate trailed and Tuscany made a brief bid near-ing the eighth pole, then flattened out. As they passed the stands, Squared Away was more than two lengths in the van and responding willingly as Atkinson urged him on, while Dark Peter charged up on the extreme inside, with Eddie Arcaro swinging his stick in rhythm. The angle made Dark Peters charge appear extremely dangerous, but that proved to be an illusion. Squared Away was bred by the estate of W. H. LaBoyteaux and began his racing career in the silks of C. T. Chenery. He was claimed for ,000 from his second winning race as a two-year-old, trainer J. H. "Casey" Hayes later explaining that he was "too hard to cool out after his races." He has won approximately 15,-000 since coming under the care of Cary Winfrey. The Burke family scored again in the race following the Roseben, when Polo carried the High Tide Stable silks to a hard«-earned victory over Short Brook Farms Strutting High. High Tide Stable is owned by Eddie Burke, husband of Squared Aways owner. Polo was ridden by Bill Boland and paid 5.10 after getting the mile in 1:40. Belair Studs La Perouse charged to a surprise triumph in the Polonaise Purse that preceded the Roseben, storming up on the outside to score by two lengths over Circle M Farms Revolve, who nosed out Greentree Stables Hoodwink. John S. Phipps Spinning Top, who was favored in this six furlongs, finished another length and a half out of the money, appearing to bog down while trying to save ground on the inside on the stretch turn. Claiborne Farms Blue Jeans set the pace to the home lane, then stopped badly, while Jack Wards Rock Maid stumbled when Sidney Cole threw the reins at her coming out of the gate and spilled that boy, who was unhurt. Jess Higley, who piloted Flapper for Mr. Fitz when that filly paid 09.30 several days ago, steered La Perouse for the sage of Sheepshead Bay and she paid a modest 9.40. It was the first outing of the year for the daughter of Apache, whn rPnnirPd 1123/. fnr thP IniirnPV.
