; Jerry Groom and Don Joyce Sign With Chicago Cardinals Jerry Groom and Don Joyce, both veterans with the Chicago Cardinals professional football team, have signed their 1953 contracts, it was announced yesterday. Groom, starting his third year with the Cards, was a standout last year when he moved to the tackle position. He is 24 years old, weights 235 pounds, is six feet, three inches tall, and is a Chicago native. Joyce, a guard, also starts his third year with the Cardinals. He is a Steubenville, Ohio, native, weighs 255 pounds and is six feet, three inches tall. Groom was a former Notre Dame star, while Joyce played college football for Tu-j lance. Their signed contracts boosted the Cardinals 1953 squad to 40 players.
