Schmitt Handling Beulah Stall Assignments Til Bury Arrives CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 27. — Gene Schmitt, veteran race track announcer and official, has been named stall superintendent at River Downs to supervise the stabling of horses until racing secretary Gene Bury arrives on the scene of operations at the close of the Beulah Park meeting, Henry Green, director of operations at River Downs, announced. For many years the track announcer at Churchill Downs and Dade Park, Schmitt has been at the microphone at River Downs for several years and will again handle the announcer duties for the 1953 meeting. Gene arrived at River Downs following the close of the Churchill Downs meeting on Saturday, May 16. Green, and totalisator supervisor Geroge Reverman, were at the track over the week-end to make final checks on the completion of the many innovations for the 1953 meeting. Both men serve in the same capacity at the present Beulah meeting in Columbus, Ohio. "The racing strip is in perfect condition," said Green, "and the beautification plans that we have had in operation since the close of last years meeting are nearing completion. We feel that the plant is in better condition now than at any other time since it was built and we hope that our increased purses and the attraction of better horses will help make this meeting the best in the history of the Cincinnati oval." ! . , , .
