Master Fiddle Becomes Massachusetts Nominee Telegraphed Nomination Reveals Being Sent Prior to Deadline SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 27. — The nomination of Myheln Stables Master Fiddle was accepted yesterday for the 19th running of the 0,000 added Massachusetts Handicap which will be run at Suffolk Downs on June 10. The acceptance of this nomination after investigation increases the eligible list to 34. When the complete list of nominations was released last Monday, Sol Rutchick, the trainer of Master Fiddle, called Owen E. Pons, Suffolk Downs racing secretary, and insisted that he had telegraphed the nomination on the afternoon of May 20. A check with Western Union revealed that the telegram had been sent to Boston and had never been delivered to the track but to the Boston office of the Eastern Racing Association which is closed during the racing season. Since it was proven that the telegram had been sent, the nomination was accepted. Master Fiddle is a four-year-old son of First Fiddle, the only double winner in Massachusetts Handicap history. First Fiddle, with Johnny Longden in the irons, captured the New England classic in 1944 and 1945. Master Fiddle last year was one of the better three - year - olds in competition early last year and his outstanding feat was the winning of the 0,000 added Wood Memorial when he whipped a standout field including Tom Fool, Jampol, Cousin, Armageddon and Primate among others. He was taken out of training a month after the Wood Memorial triumph and did [ not return to the races until last month. After being idle almost a year, Master Fiddle is now being slowly brought back to , top form.
