Native Native Dancer Dancer Wins Wins Belmont; Belmont; Miss Miss America America to to Jay Jay Jay Jay Gee Gee Tifth Win for Filly Of Woodview Barn Queen Hopeful Runner-Up at Hawthorne; Sunny Dale Gets Honors in Prep for Lincoln By J. J. MURPHY HAWTHORNE, Cicero, HI., June 13.— The pick of the two-year-old fillies quartered at this track sought honors and the 2 950 winners end .in the sixth running of the Miss America Stakes before a crowd of 20,292 here today. It was a home victory in that Jay Jay Gee, a daughter of Littletown— Alwick, who was bred at Edward and Morris Ginsbergs Woodview Farm on the outskirts of Chicago, was the winner. Jay Jay Gee, in taking her fifth purse in six starts, scored by two and one-half lengths over Hasty House Farms Queen Hopeful, with Inflationary, considered the lesser half of the favored Mrs E Brisbine entry, taking third place over Brent Harts Rollins Kappy. Jay Jay Gee, in connecting for her third straight success at this meeting, had jockey John Heckmann in the saddle, and the filly was never worse than second in the bulky field of 15. Queen Hopeful, out of the gate "on high," set the pace under the urging of jockey Bob Howell and the miss, trying for her fourth consecutive triumph, showed the way by one length until they had turned for home. Then Jay Jay Gee moved up and gradually wearing her down was well on her way to victory with a sixteenth to go. It was virtually a two-horse race as the others were never capable of seriously threatening the leaders, although Golly and Rollins Kappy were fairly close in the early running. Returns 6.00 Mutuel Jay Jay Gee ran five furlongs in 1:00% in taking the Miss America, which was for a purse of 5,000 added. She paid 6.00. The winner was bred by herowners and her sire was sold recently for 00. Theracing strip was not at its best today. Sunny Dale, a two-time stakes winner during the winter months, returned to Hawthorne today as an excellent race mare and defeated Baybrook, a double stakes winner at this meeting, by a head in the 0,000 Elmwood Park Handicap. The dis-stance was one and one-sixteenth miles, and although beaten Baybrook retained his right to be classed as the champion sprinter hereabouts. The Steger and Fleming Memorial winner was in front until the final 30 yards of the affair and put up a Continued on Page Three | „ Jay Jay Gee Carries Off I Miss , America Stakes Honors Continued from Page One c courageous battle before being headed. r Third place went to Royal Mustang, with j Big Stretch, who was racing coupled with r Tahitian, finishing fourth. Sunny Dale, in Winning the second purse c of the afternoon for the Buddah Stable, c owned by Dave Paper, of JSt. Paul, Minn., v was well ridden by jockey W. M. Cook, who was registering his second success of the q day. Cook held the five-year-old mare a about five lengths off the leader until the s stretch was reached, then moved her up c on the outside of Baybrook and Royal j Mustang, and she had what was necessary v when it came to an issue. She paid 3.20 a and ran the distance in 1:45%. Dean Cavy, winner of the Joliet Stakes h here last year, proved that his recent effort as a three-year-old at this tracks did him a world of good when he easily trimmed the odds-on favorite, Blaze, in the fifth race. Blaze, who early this season was regarded as being of Kentucky Derby timber, was beaten three lengths by the good running son of Heliopolis, who was bearing the silks of Mrs. E. M. Veeneman. Jockey Steve Brooks sent Dean Cavy to the front early, and by the time the stretch was reached he had a four-length advantage. Blaze was under restraint to the stretch and then came wide, but was going fast at the end.
