F. Baus Dis Pete, a handsome three-year-old son of Dispose— Victory Wise, came through with a thrilling spine-tingling half-length decision in the featured Plain Dealer Purse here this afternooon. A dead heat resulted for the place award between Bull Skin, the favorite, and Mor-Snoozey. Time for the race at six and one-half furlongs was 1:20*4," which is a new track record. The winner was the longest-priced horse in the field and paid 2.60. A fine crowd of 7,282 was on hand for the first Saturday of the current 35-day meeting. Buck Thornburg rode an excellent race on the winner, and had the colt in fourth position as the horses sped past the judges stand on their first trip around. Bull Skin had opened a three-length advantage as the field straightened away for the run down the backstretch with Mor-Snoozey second and Scrub in third position. The eventual winner was still under wraps in fourth spot better than five lengths in ar- rears. As the horses swept into the far turn Bull Skin led by one length and Dis Pete had moved up very fast responding gamely to pressure and was now second while between Bull Skin and Mor-Snoozey who was third on the outside. Curving for home Bull Skin held on ten- aciously to his one length lead, but at the sixteenth pole started to falter and Dis Pete moved up to gain command soon thereafter. In the meanwhile a terriffic struggle was ensuing for the place award between Bull Skin and Mor-Snoozey. As the horses went under the wire the winner was in the middle of the track with Bull Skin along the rail and Mor-Snoozey on the out- side. It was impossible for the placing judges to seperate those two and a dead heat resulted. Joe Levines Sun Goddess, given an ex- cellent ride by Sammy Williams, moved through on the inside at the head of the stretch and after disposing of Brass Hat a sixteenth out drew clear to win by two lengths. Sun Goddess was winning her sec- ond race of the meeting and paid a hand- some 0.80 running the six and one-half furlongs in 1:21, which is a new track rec- ord. „ , I c r j r c c v q a s c j v a h as
