; Many Improvements to Greet Arlington Fans and Horsemen Increased Parking, Seating, Stabling and Backstretch Facilities to Be Available Thoroughbred racing fans and horsemen will find Arlington Park more spacious and comfortable than ever when the northwest suburban track opens its 1953 season on June 22. New improvements, designed to further increase parking, seating, stabling and backstretch facilities, will greet both the public and turfmen when the track opens for a 36-day stand with most of Americas top-ranking thoroughbreds, jockeys and stables in competition. The improvement program, one of the most extensive ever attempted by a Chicago track, includes a new parking area which will increase Arlingtons on-the-grounds accommodations to 14,000 autos; a new, modern barn for 76 horses; remodeled and modernized recreation rooms for stable personnel; resurfaced roads; more boxseats and enlarged, modernized comfort facilities in the Stands. In addition, it was announced by executive director Benjamin F. Lindheimer, a brand-new combination stable kitchen-dining room-recreation room of red brick and glass is under construction at Washington Park. It will be ready for the e August 3 opening of the Homewood course. !. To Accommodate 2,400 More Cars Long noted for its vast, supervised parking - area on Arlingtons own grounds, the g new auto-lot has been constructed alongside - the south end of the stands and will 1 accommodate an additional 2,400 cars. All 1 parking sectors are constantly patrolled by j two emergency trucks to assist motorists, , at ho charge, with flat tires and other r repairs. Parking fees at both Arlington i and Washington remain at 25 cents. The new, 76-stall barn is 470 feet long, , and also has 28 sleeping rooms for nearly T 60 stable personnel, plus four new sets of I lavatory comfort tile-showers facilities.The i barn has firewall breaks every four stalls 5 and has circulating exhaust fans every r eight stalls. Stable personnel at Arlington Park will I be greeted with remodeled recreation rooms ; —both interior and exterior — plus new lavatory-comfort-tile shower facilities. Of benefit to both the racing public and I horsemen will be the introduction of mobile, short-wave radio telephone walkie-talkies at both Arlington and Washington. The mobile equipment, first such installations at an American race track, will augment fire protection, be available for quick emergency service in case of illness or accident, and will aid considerable in speeding up the daily racing program. All patrol cars, which cover the grounds 24 hours a , day, the stewards, mutuel departments, fire , department and starting-gate will be , equipped with walkie-talkies. The new stable kitchen-recreation room structure , at Washington Park will be approximately 100 by 80 feet and will be the finest ■ of its kind in thoroughbred racing. It will contain modern, airy dining rooms, ] expansive recreation rooms with tiled ! showers, , lockers and other conveniences, ■ plus off-hour activities, such as television, : : radio, snack bar, billiards,.card-tables, table : j tennis and library. v !
