U i , , | I - • " : 1 1 1 - e 12,000 at River Downs Despite Morning Rains „ Rita Dugan Returned Winner in 10 Furlong Race; Lucas Thrown RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 13. — Light morning showers failed to 4 dampen the enthusiasm of upward of 12,000 racing fans at River Downs for the second Saturday of. racing and the fans « were in a wagering mood as indicated by the early mutuel pools. The rain failed to affect the track condition and the fans were treated to a gruelling mile and a quarter allowance race in the fourth race of the afternoon. Bobby Reeves gave W. Ruffs Rita Dugan a fine -ride in the ten-furlong test waiting patiently with Rita Dugan, then coming , through the field with authority to hold a one-length margin at the finish of the test. Rita Dugan ran the distance in 2:08 and returned .40 as the popular choice of the crowd. . * It was the first winner of the meetmg for Reeves who hails from nearby Colum- , bus and has been making an uphill fight against ill health since being discharged from the Navy two years ago. The first race of the af ternon was delayed approximately nine minutes when Never Amber became fractious at the start and unseated W. D. Lucas, injuring his wrist, and L. Grubb was substituted on the mount. Lucas was removed to the hospital for further examination of the injured , wrist and did not see F. Shultz* Crazette triumph by three-quarters of a length over a limit band of claimers. Crazette was gain-3 ing her first triumph this season and ran the six furlongs in 1:13 to return .40 as the favorite with the large throng.
