LAVERNE kept close to the leaders, moved up on the outside entering the stretch, responded to energetic handling to gain cbmmand and withstood the challenge of NEWTON HIGH. The latter was under a steady drive during the final quarter and was pressing the leader. FIVE STAR assumed command under restraint, drew clear, but weakened when put to pressure. SUPERNOVA came through along the inside on the turn, moved out for the drive, but failed to menace. YOUNG ROMANCE had no mishap. KATHY T. went evenly. E AWIWI showed nothing. FLIGHTS FANCY tired.
