THE EAGLE was well rated close to the pace in the first seven furlongs, then came strongly on the outside through the .stretch to wear down VANTAGE and be up to win narrowly in the closing strides. VANTAGE went to the front at once and, well rated while, making the pace, saved all possible ground and just missed. HIERARCH raced close to the pace while saving ground, but dropped back slightly in the stretch. ICEBERG II. was under early restraint and, going rather wide on the stretch turn, failed to be a serious contender. DR. OLE, NELSON was going weir at the end. BRECON BEACONS was nicely rated within striking distance of the leaders until the stretch was reached, then came very fast on the outside to catch NEW HOPE and win going away. NEW HOPE slipped through on the inside on the stretch turn to take a short lead and best MANNA H. in a drive. MANNA H. moved to challenge for the leadership around the stretch turn and went fairly well thereafter. STAGGERING IN made up some ground. The others failed to figure when it came to an issue.
