Randall Park to Introduce Turf Racing This Summer First Track in Ohio Offering Popular Sport Oyer Greensward By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, June 25. — Saul Silberman, the dynamic president of Randall Park, who has just about introduced every new innovation to Ohio racing, will come up with another this summer when the new turf course will be put to use. The course is about seven furlongs and will be first time in the history of the Buckeye State that turf racing will be carded. In Illinois, New Jersey, Florida, and Maryland, the turf sport has grown each season and has become as a matter of fact the most populai*j| form of racing at those courses that feature the sport. There will be one stake race run over the grass at Randall this season. It will be up for decision on September 5th-and is scheduled at about six and one-half furlongs for a purse of ,000 added. It will be appropriately named the Chagrin Valley Turf Handicap, after one of the real beauty spots in northern Ohio. Racing secretary and handicapper j. Gilbert Haus also has a liberal sprinkling of turf events in his first issue of the condition book. On opening day Haus plans to have a ,500 claiming event contested over the grass at six and one-half furlongs. As the meeting goes on of course the races will be at longer distances and for allowance horses. It usually takes a grass course anywhere from two to three years to settle properly before any races may be run over it. The Randall strip has been brought along with great patience and is now in tip-top condition for the very colorful phase of the thoroughbred sport. Randall opens its 44-day meeting on Saturday July 18th with the featured event the ,000 added Shaker Handicap at six furlongs. The race is for three-year-olds-and upward and entries for the race clos T on Wednesday July 8th.
