Plus Fours saved the runner-up position by a nose from Melpet Stables Noch Eins. Ideal weather prevailed at this seaside oval this afternoon and 10,258 were on hand to witness the sport. The defeat of Plus Fours was the fifth choice of the day to dail. The -winning filly earned ,100 as the lions share of the ,500 purse and now has gleaned 0,025 for the year. Navy cut out the early pace in the Vesper, traveling the opening quarter mile in :22% and completing the half mile in :45%. At that point, the daughter of Knights Caprice began coming back to the field and Plus Fours and Noch Eins dueled for the lead. Stuart had been biding his time with Our Dorie, saving all ground possible. Taking advantage of an opening along the rail, Stuart moved his charge quickly and inside of a sixteenth of a mile had ranged up alongside the battling pair. The forward progress of Our Dorie had not been spent with the rush to reach the leaders and she went on under a steady drive. •
