Cajole, the only filly in the field, gained the lead soon after the start and after the first quarter was in front by a head over Country Gossip, who in turn was a half length before McCreight. Black Coffee was fourth, followed by Sir Hoop, First Endeavor and the eventual winner who was seventh some four lengths back. Gulf Stream also started to make his bid while between horses and Isle of Bond was moving up fast from the outside. Racing into the stretch, the filly was still in front, but by only a head over Mr. Skip, with Black Coffee third and Isle of Bond looming dangerously while on the outside. Gulf Stream was fifth, while also on the outside of horses. Just inside the furlong marker, Cajole tired and Mr. Skip moved through to gain a short lead under Caf farellas urging. Gulf Stream had now passed both Cajole and Isle of Bond and was moving along swiftly from the outside and just inside the sevr enty yards pole disposed of Black Coffee and set sail after Mr. Skip. However, the rally fell short and Mr. Skip won the hard earned tally. The winning son of Blenban Crusand, who was bred by S. O. Graham, was winning his fourth race of the year in nine starts. Mr. Skips winning share of the 1,800 purse was ,175. Herbert E. Simpsons Windy, nicely ridden by William Hartack, shot to the front in this years Cuyahoga Handicap series when he easily defeated six others in record-breaking time of 2:31 for the mile and one-half. Shaffers Avacado, winner of the Lake Erie Handicap earlier in the meeting, scored a thrilling neck decision over the favored Shag Tails who, in turn, was another neck before Click-Click at the end of the six furlongs. Avacado was ridden by Bill Hartack and as a team completed the sprint in 1:10, which equals the track record which is shared jointly by Shag Tails and Tommy Chick. The winner paid .40 as the second choice. The Daily Double return was a handsome 29.60 as Miss Jato at 6.40 and Lumena paying 0.40, combined winning efforts.
