To Renew Princess Pat,Meadowland Run Juvenile Filly Stake Wednesday Washington Race Likely to Gross 05,000; Saturday Race Draws Turf Runners WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., Aug. 22. The queen of the two-year-old fillies and the champion turf course specialist of the nation may be crowned during the coming week at Washington Park, where a pair of all-important stakes headline the fourth and next-to-last week of sport at the South Side course. The young amazons will class in the four-7 teenth running of the Princess Pat Stakes, a six-furlong dash that is expected to gross approximately 05,000. This is carded for Wednesday, August 26. Saturday, August 29, marks the last of the brilliant array of turf stakes offered by the coordinated Arlington - Washington meetings, with the tenth running of the 0,000 added Meadowland Handicap up for decision. The race on the infield greensward is scheduled at a mile and three-sixteenths. After the Meadowland, there will be another full week of sport at Washington Park, and then, on the following Monday, Labor Day, the meeting will terminate with the running of the fabulously-rich 70,000 Washington Park Handicap. Queen Hopeful Looms Choice Queen Hopeful, scintillating filly of the highly successful Hasty House Farm barn, looms as the early favorite for the Princess Pat, but there are numerous others in the field worthy of respect, and her assignment does not seem by any means an easy one. Her key opponents appear to Wallace Gilroys Greek Lady and Clifford Mooers Spy Magic. Other threats are Rex C. Ellsworths Chorus Khal, James Emerys Co-sentina, Mrs- J. A. Goodwins Roman Warbler, L. F. and P. Holtons Alifair and Mrs. O. C. Neumans Beanir. Several lesser lights are expected to swell the size of the field. Queen Hopeful, Greek Lady and Spy Magic shared in the spotlight after the recent Mademoisells Stakes was run in two divisions. Spy Magic won off to herself, scoring in a gallop by seven lengths in what was believed to be the weaker section of the stakes. Queen Hopeful and Greek Lady shared in a dead heat for top prize in the second half of the event. They locked in a nod-for-nod struggle in the stretch and neither gave an inch as they engaged in a battle to the wire. Queen Hopeful, however, carries the best overall credentials. She was the winner of the Arlington Lassie stakes in another thriller, when nosed ont by Calumet Farms Miz Clementine. Miz Clementine Retired for Year It had been hoped that the Calumet miss would face the Hasty House speedster in the Princess Pat, but she has been rendered hors de combat through injuries and is reported to be retired for the year. The Meadowland, oh Saturday, is the most grueling of the turf stakes offered in the Chicago area, and the most richly endowed. The power in the race includes Mrs. H. L. Nathensons Guy, Duntreath Farms The Eagle, S. C. Mikells Brush Burn, Clifford Mooers Endowment, Reverie Knoll Farms Smoke Screen, Marion H. VanBergs Vantage, Hasty House Farms Stan, M. A. and R. Saffirs Dr. Ole Nelson, Buddah Stables Dance Nsing, Mrs. J. P. Keezeks Abbe Sting, and Max Kahlbaums Jampol. Abbe Sting was the champion of the turf course at Arlington Park, winning the Laurance Armour Memorial and the Stars and Stripes. In the latter he raced the mile and one-eighth in 1:48, which represented a new track record and tied the Ameican track mark. The gelding attempted to make it three straight on the turf here at Washington Park last Saturday, in the Grassland Handicap, but was unable to unleash his usual spectacular stretch drive and failed to finish among the money horses. Stan was the big surprise of the Grassland. The gelding was purchased early in the year by Mr. and Mrs. Allie E. Reuben, of Hasty House Farm. As a two-year-old he had raced on the turf in England. He was started in a pair of races on Arlington Parks grass against fair-to-middlin opposition, and showed good efforts. However, his winning stretch bid in the Grassland last Saturday was extremely impressive. Brush Burn, who is co-holder of the American turf record for a. mile and . one-eighth with Abbe" Sting, also showed : keen foot in the Grassland. He had the ! lead until he succumbed to Stans belated I told in the last stride or two.
