Ted-Maker Entered at Spa Monday To Face Matagorda AndColdCommand Renewals of Alabama, Cup, Hopeful Promise Top Sport For Final Week of Meeting SARATOGA, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., Aug. 22. Saratoga enters its fourth and final week for this year of racing in the Adirondack foothills on Monday, with the Gansevoort Handicap at six furlongs as the feature event. This dash, which -is headed by B. Ambrose Clarks Tea-Maker with 123 pounds, is named for the sleepy little town on the back road to Lake George. Pour stakes are on the agenda during this final phase of the up-state session: the 5,000 Alabama for three-year-old fillies at a mile and one-quarter on Wednesday, the 0,000 Saratoga Steeplechase Handicap at about two miles and a half on Thursday, the 5,000 Saratoga Cup at a mile and three-quarters on Friday, and the 0,000 Hopeful Stakes for two-year-olds at six and a half furlongs on the final Saturday. " Mrs. Ben F. Whitakers Grecian Queen looms a short-priced choice in the 73d running of the Alabama, as she clearly dominates those of her age and. sex and almost to the same degree that Native Dancer overshadows his male contemporaries. The chief opposition to the daughter of Heliopolis is expected to come from Belair Studs Sabette, winner of the Diana Handicap last Wednesday and a close second to Grecian Queen in the Coaching Club American Oaks. The Whitaker miss will have to pick up 126 pounds because of her multiple Oaks triumphs. Oddly enough, she is not penalized for her victory in the 00,000 New Castle Handicap, while Sabette gets in with 114 pounds, picking up five more than the minimum for having won the Diana. All the other penalties in the race are exclusively for money won in three-year-old races. Other prospects are C. V. Whitneys stretchtrunning Ming Yellow and, possibly, Alfred G. Vanderbilts Home-Made. Dancer Going Direct to Belmont Native Dancer is eligible to the Saratoga Cup, but is scheduled to ship direct to Belmont Park from Chicago. However, since the gray colt has no other engagement until the Sysonby Mile at Belmont Park on September 26, he might come here to pick up what looks like an easy 0,875 net, assuming that he has an easy race in i the American Derby and has three rivals in the Cup. Of the 27 others eligible to the Saratoga : Cup only Ogden Phipps Great Captain, . Hampton Stables Alerted, William Zieg-, lers Bit o Fate, and possibly C. V. Whitneys Mameluke or Cold Command seem i likely to go postward, regardless of Mr. Vanderbilts plans for The Dancer. The Hopeful, on the other hand, seems . likely to draw a sizable field, despite the raging cough hereabouts. The most inter-. esting aspect of the stake, which is expected I to net the winner something like 0,000, l is that it promises a return meeting between Cain Hoy Stables Turn-to and Llangollen Farms Porterhouse. Turn-to . was awarded the Saratoga Special when l Porterhouse was disqualified and both I colts passed up the Grand Union Hotel Stakes today. Most of the others likely to dispute this 49th edition of the Hopeful are in todays Grand Union and a glance at the chart of that race may indicate which of them is likely to furnish contention for Porterhouse and Turn-To. Incidentally, the cough has eliminated all of the speedy and promising Greentree Stable candidates, though Card Trick is breezing again. To return to the Gansevoort, this dash has attracted a pair that have been on the sidelines for several weeks after showing 1 good form in the spring in the persons of f Joe W. Browns Matagorda and C. V, Whit- f neys Cold Command. Matagorda won the , Louisiana Derby impressively, then devel- - oped a kidney infection en route to Gulf-J stream Park, but has been training well in 5 recent days. Cold Command turned in a i couple of fine races in May, then went - wrong after finishing third to Tom Fool i and Royal Vale in the Suburban. He has s been training well and it might be remem-., bered that, though he is considered a route i runner, he won a dash at five and a half 3 furlongs at Jamaica at the first asking. L Tea-Maker has also been on the side-i lines, but for a shorter period, recuperating e from a minor ankle injury, s Jim Fitzsimmons is sending out Wheat-k ley Stables Hilarious and Belair Studs l. Hyphasis, with 118 and 116 pounds each. The former won his last start here, while e Hyphasis comes from a bad race at Mon-7 mouth Park. The field is completed by Jet d Master, Sandtop, Raes Reward, Timelj s Reward, Pacific Ocean and War Poppy and it promises to be a lively contest.
