Burdette Hurls One-Hitter As Braves Nip Dodgers, 5-1 BROOKLYN, N. Y., May 12 UP. Lou Burdette allowed only One hit a home run by Gil Hodges as he pitched the Milwaukee Braves to a 5-1 victory over the Brooklyn Dodgers: today. It was the second spectacular pitching victory for the Braves over the Dodgers in a row. Last night, Gene Conley struck out seven in hurling a 2-0 shut out over the Dodgers. Burdette, given perfect support, was never in danger of being scored upon except- for the towering blast of Hodges. Only two other men reached first base, Don Newcombe on a walk in the third and Jackie Robinson on a walk in the seventh. Robinson was erased on a double play so the Dodgers had only one runner left on base. Burdette, in gaming his third victory Struck out two and retired 17 on infield grounders. The Braves, in the meantime, were having a long-ball hitting circus off Newcombe and Ben Wade, .collecting 11 hits; Ed Mathews started Burdette off "in frot 1-0 when he homered in the first inning and Joe Adcock followed with a homer to make it 2-0 in the second. The Braves picked up a third run in the fourth on Mathews double, Andy Pafkos sacrifice and a double by Hank Aaron. Danny OConnell doubled home a run in the fifth and the Braves completed the scoring in the eighth, picking, up an unearned run. Mathews singled and, when Pafko bunted in a sacrifice attempt, Hodges threw wildly to second and Mathews took third on the missplay. However, Pafko was out trying to reach second. A sacrifice fly by Adcock completed the scoring.
