The 0,000 Armed Forces Purse and the ,000 Fort Knox Purse will cofeature an excellent program at this picturesque Kentucky Derby course Saturday afternoon when Churchill Downs rings down the curtain on one of its finest spring meetings. Thirteen quick three-year-olds are named for the one-mile Armed Forces and 10 of the better older racers are expected to answer "Boots and Saddles" in the seven-furlong Fort Knox. Equally Weighted at 118 Under the allowance terms of the Armed Forces, Dr. A. L. Birchs Timely Tip and Hasty House Farms Sea O Erin are the high weights at 118 pounds, and they probably will go to the post strongly supported. Dixianas Devilment is the top weight at 118 pounds under the races conditions and the four-year-old Devil Diver sired colt will be ridden by jockey Brooks. Devilment recently annexed the seven-eighths mile Aristides Purse, beating eight rivals in 1:25 while shouldering 121 pounds. In the field named to oppose Devilment in the Fort Knox are-such hard-hitting performers as G and G Stables Money Broker, 1953 Florida Derby star; and Theodore D. The daughter of Roman and Boat, by Man o War, topped last years auctions and her appearance in the Saturday entries created considerable interest along the Downs shed rows and lawns. Roman Boat will be handled by jockey Brooks and she will clash with 10 other junior misses. Among the celebrities expected to attend the getaway day program is Under-Secretary of the Air Forces James H. Douglas, who will be accompanied by Mrs. Douglas. Each of the final day races is named for a branch of the armed forces and anyone in service uniform will be admitted free. The guests of president Bill Corum and his Churchill Downs associates. Post time Saturday for the initial event will be at the regular hour, 2:00 P. M., and nine races are scheduled for decision.
