Begorra Registers Easily at Belmont Rand Colorbearer Defeats Golden Gloves, Ram o War; Double for Chenery Silks BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L.I., N.Y., May 14. Overlooked by the crowd of 20,285, Prank C. Rand, Jr.s Begorra won the featured Tailspin Purse with the style of a stakes horse, rolling to the finish of the mile four and a half lengths before Belair Studs Golden Gloves, who led Bruce S. Campbells Ram oWar another two lengths. Hampton Stables Alerted, who still appears about a race away from top condition, was another neck out of the money. Golden Gloves was favorite on the strength of his second to Straight Face in the Dixie Handicap. Bicarb, Put Out, Swoop and Fair Brother completed the field. Charley OBrien rode Begorra, who paid 4.20 after stepping the mile in 1:37 and the three-quarters in 1:11 on a fast track. A former Greentree Stable horse, Begorra was scoring his first victory of the year on the fourth attempt. Swoop Goes Into Command Bill Boland sent Swoop into command at the start of the Tailspin, followed by Golden Gloves and Fair Brother, while Begorra was in sixth place in the long run down the backstretch, gradually improving position at the far turn. Between the turns, Begorra moved up abruptly to join Swoop and the pair were a couple of lengths before Bicarb, who was racing on-the rail, followed by Alerted, who was between horses, and Golden Gloves. Swoop stopped abruptly curving for home, while Begorra drew away from the field with a powerful move that quickly opened up four lengths of daylight, while Golden Gloves came on again in vain pursuit. Alerted made a brief bid at the head of the stretch, then hung, while Ram oWar, who had been trailing to the three-furlong pole, finished with a belated rush. Fair Brother, who was making his seasonal bow, stopped badly after three furlongs. Owner C. T. Chenery, trainer J. H. "Casey" Hayes and jockey Jim Nichols completed a consecutive double when Talora followed the success of Thunder Hole by winning the La Tosca Purse. The English-bred daughter of Petition staggered home a length and a half before Mrs. E. P. Taylors Question Time, who led Walter M. Jeff ords Henryi by the same margin, while Wheatley Stables Hill Rose was a head out of the money. After the race, the stewards asked to see the movies and after studying the patrol films disqualified Henryi from third place. Talora paid 5.30.
