A-Pacopep in Popular Downs Score i Passes Wire Head Before Silver K Campbell Campaigner Totes 122 Pounds in Bear Grass Tally; Traffic Judges Wins CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 14. Mrs. H. Allen CampbellJ A-Paco-pep, a hard-running five-year-old Apache-sired gelding, earned a popular victory here this cloudy afternoon in the Bear Grass Purse. Finishing strongly under a hustling ride from jockey Steve Brooks, A-Pacopep was along in the last strides of the six-furlong feature to get a head verdict from Emil Denemarks hard-hitting Silver K. Slightly more than a length off the top pair, Milton Resseguets New Orleans-owned Mighty Moment lasted for third, while H. R. Penneys Parklea saved fourth money in the field of seven Bear Grass Purse starters. A-Pacopep, a good class winner in Florida and Keeneland this year, took up 122 pounds and raced the three-quarters mile of the Bea Grass over the fast track in 1:12. Installed a 3-to-2 tote choice by the crowd of 10,000 spectators out for the semi-final program of the Downs spring meeting, the Detroit-owned victor received a rousing round of applause when Brooks brought him back to the scales after his game accounting. j Red Sultan Game Victor I Clarence Hartwicks .Red Sultan, skillfully ridden by Douglas Dodson, earned a game decision in the Liberty Purse after a bitterly-waged stretch duel with Warner L. Jones, Jr.s favored Hug Up, who set the pace for the major part of the distance. Just a head separated the two leaders at the final marker and Larry H. Thompsons Second Request finished third another length away. Six sophomore racers started in the Liberty. Red Sultan, a chestnut son of the Sultan and Sweeping Eva, carried 120 pounds over the seven furlongs in 1:25 and, despite a previous winning trip at the present meeting, went off in the "tote" at 9 to 1. Two-year-olds contested the Daily Double events; Clifford Mooers homebred Traffic Judge, a fashionably-bred son of Alibhai and Traffic Court, made good in his first appearance under silks in the opener and Ernest H. Lanes homebred Top Deck-sired filly, Top Fair, was successful in the second. Traffic Judge, ridden by Layton Risley, beat Mielleux by a two-length margin in the first race and Al Wellmans Florson ran third in the capacity band of juveniles meeting in the five furlongs dash. The Mooers colt completed his graduation trip in 1:00 and went off at 37 to 10 in the betting. Top Fair, handled by Kenny Church, took a three lengths decision in the five- eighths mile second, trimming Mallia and ; Noes Agnes Lynn, G and G Stables Biddy Sue, early pacemaker; and eight other youngsters. -Top Fair, who became a double winner at the Downs meeting, was clocked in a creditable :59 and she was a 26 to 5 chance in the "tote." The Daily Double pay-off on Traffic Judge and Top Fair was 9.20.
