. Endon Home First At Cicero Course VanBergs Recent Purchase Hard Pressed to Outsprint Pondering and Sky Jeep SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 14. Endon, a well regarded three-year-old recently acquired by Marion VanBerg, made his first appearance at this track this afternoon and came through with a victory in the featured Paul Gibson, an optional claiming race. The colt had been entered to participate in the 0,000 Sportsmans Park Handicap Saturday, but apparently "ducked" that affair to try for todays purse of ,000. He had some difficulty getting home in front despite the fact that he was a short-priced favorite. Jockey Ronnie Baldwin, steering his second winner of the afternoon, was in the irons and he restrained Endon while he was being outrun. The colt got to the front in the stretch, but his margin over the fast closing Illinois-bred Pondering was but a head, while Sky Jeep was a bang-up third. The distance was seven furlongs and. Dark Embassy, one of the neglected ones as far as the bettors were concerned, set out to make the pace. The gelding did a good job of it and at the half-way mark was five lengths in front. Endon, who had been next the rail, moved up approaching the stretch turn, and although going rather wide, took command around the bend. Both Pondering and Sky Jeep threatened when they came fast at the end. Started in Louisiana Derby Endon, who was a starter in the Louisiana Derby last winter and finished fairly well up, paid .40. A crowd of 10,321 attended the sport at this popular half-mile course in fine springlike weather. The Daily Double paid 23.00 when Noble Dress, ridden by Ray Williams, took the first race, and Watch Toy, with William E. Carroll in the saddle, won the second. Noble Dress, third choice in the seven-furlong event, came from behind to turn the trick, beating Silvery, the favorite, after a stretch duel. Watch Toy led all the way in a five-furlong affair to take the measure of Mon Baiser. Jockey Carroll steered his second winner of the day when he had the favored Lado-lee down in front in the fifth. Ladolee was slow to get going and made up much ground, but got to the .front in the stretch and won under urging, from Top Stockings. Martin Whelan, a veteran five-furlong racer, had little trouble winning the third under the riding of Ronnie Baldwin. He took command early and opened up on his rivals in the stretch. He was the public choice. Marys Frank, with Henry Perez up, saved ground in the stretch to connect narrowly over the favored Air. Tops in the fourth.
