Fascinator and Queen Hopeful Renew Rivalry in Black-Eyed Susan at Pimlico Latter May Rule Choice Over Kentucky Oaks Conqueror; Arcaro to Ride Fancy Diver By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 14. Maine Chance Farms Fascinator and Hasty House Farms Queen Hopeful renew their rivalry tomorrow afternoon in the 30th running of the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, formerly known as the Pimlico Oaks. Designed especially for three-year-old fillies, the fixture has attracted nine members of the division to match strides at the mile and one-sixteenth distance. Should the overnight field remain intact, the Susan will cross 5,750, with the owner of the winner taking down a check of 6,550. Opposing the aforementioned duo will be the following: Wood vale Farms Fancy Diver, "Warren P. Griff ths Gweny G., George D. Wideners Pomme dOr, Philip Godfreys OAlison, Brandywine Stables Waila, Louis Lee Haggin n.s Brook Flower and Mrs. E. M. Snyders Nimble Lady. All starters carry 121 pounds. Fascinator and Queen Hopeful hooked up in the Kentucky Oaks, with the former downing her rival by a length after a mile and one-sixteenth in 1:45 flat. Fascinator, however, has since raced in the Acorn at Belmont Park and finished a dull-running ninth after getting the lead after six fur- longs. Earlier in the year, Maine Chances daughter of War Jeep had accounted for the Columbiana at Hialeah, which helped considerable in sending her seasonal earnings to 0,950. Dave Gorman will handle Fascinator in the Susan. Queen Hopefuls general form places her above Fascinator, and it seems likely that she will parade postward as the favorite over her recent conqueror. The dark bay Roman filly has raced seven -times this year and hasnt been worse than second, winning on four occasions and earning 1,050. Her stakes victories were accomplished in the Orchid and Florida Oaks, while she was second in the Jasmine, Ashland and the Kentucky Oaks. Eddie Arcaro, who failed here lost week astride Capeador in the Dixie, has been engaged to ride Fancy Diver for trainer Woody Stephens in the Susan. Fancy Diver, following a rather unimpressive Florida campaign, raced four times in Kentucky. She was second in her first two appearances, then won a sprint in 1:10. In her only other outing, the Devil Diver miss took the measure of the Preakness - eligible, For Free, while running a mile and a sixteenth in l:45fc, which was the fraction slower than the running of the Oaks. Three Raced Last Monday Three of the Black-Eyed Susan field displayed their wares last Monday over the local oval and at the same distance. The winner in 1:485 over the dull track was Gweny G. This daughter of Alquest has yet to distinguish herself in stakes competition but she shapes up as the best of the local talent. In her last race she beat Nimble Lady three and one-half lengths, while Brook Flower was two lengths farther back. Nick Shuk will handle Gweny G., while Walter Blum and Glen Lasswell have been named to ride Nimble Lady and Brook Flower, respectively. OAlison, a stakes winner last fall after having finished second here in the Marguerite, has failed to be impressive this spring. She last competed in the Acorn and finished seventh, two notches above Fascinator. Waila is a six-time winner this season and will be making her first appearance in stakes company. Pomme dOr, a maiden, earned a starting position with a bang-up second behind Henryi at seven furlongs in New York.
