Offer Delaware Valley in Divisions Due de Fer Facing Revolt, Helioscope Brookfield Farm Sends Out Coupling in Both Halves Of New Garden State Race By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 14 Twenty-two of the better sophomore sprinters in the land were named this morning in an overwhelming response for Saturdays inaugural running at six furlongs of the 0,000 added Delaware Stakes, causing racing secretary M. C. "Ty" Shea to equally divide the field to be presented as the sixth and seventh races. The program is further enhanced by the Williamstown Purse, carded as the fifth, in which Trio Stables Laffango, second to Native Dancer his last start; W- H. Foales Just Sidney, victor of the Camden Handicap here, Fly Wheel, Repetoire, Stepchild and Brook Prince will compete. The drawing of the entries fortunately brought together the foremost of the aspirants to compete in the second division of the new stake, and this is by far the most interesting. Listed in this group of 11 are J. W. Rodgers Due de Fer, returning to the starting point of his sensational career; Wheatley Stables Quick Lunch, beaten a nose his last start in the Swift Stakes; William G. Helis, Jr.s, Helioscope, unbeaten in his only four starts; Joseph Gavegnanos Coastal Light, capable stable-mate to the sidelined Errard King; Cain Hoy Stables Giant Cracker, Hal Price Headleys Revolt, E. M. OBriens Brisuet, Leslie Jane Stables Ducat, J. Barry Ryans Buttevant and Brookfield Farms I Que. Leading Contenders in First Half The leading contenders in the first half of the Delaware Valley are E. Lowrances Everett Jr., an invader from the Midwest; W. Haggin Perrys Remand, third his last sortie in the Swift; C. V. Whitneys Cats-paw, East Acres Bronze Warrior and the entry of Brookfield Farms I Geegee and I Appeal. Brookfield Farms has the only stable coupling, being represented by two runners in the first division and another in the second. King Ranch has one in each end. Due de Fer, who equaled the five-furlong track record here last year, will be favored by those who remember his excellent speed in New Jersey as a juvenile. The flashy brown son of Spy Song and Lady Waterloo won the William Penn Stakes over this course, and was unbeaten in his first five starts. Due de Fers first defeat came last March at Gulfstream Park when he disappointed at seven furlongs in an overnight handicap and finished fourth to Post Pran- dial, Goyamo and Correlation. He faltered and finished seventh to Errard King in the Experimental, and was fifth to Royal Vale and other older performers his last start" in the Arise Handicap at Jamaica. That trainer E. S. Brumfield has Due de Fer in the peak of condition is evident by his morning workouts. Just this morning he warmed up for the Delaware Valley with a handy three-furlong spin in :35. His weight tomorrow is 121 pounds and he will be ridden by Logan Batcheller. Cain Hoy Stables Giant Cracker was extremely impressive winning a six-furlong allowance dash here this week, and he probably will be second choice. The Cosmic Bomb colt disappointed in the Swift, Experimental and the Flamingo Stakes, but his race here indicates a return to top form. He was eased up at the finish taking this victory, and a race such as he gave to win the Hibiscus at Hialeah during the winter gives a pointer to his capabilities. He is to carry the top impost of 124 pounds and will be ridden by the stables pilot, Henry Moreno, who won The Garden State last fall with Turn-to. Quick Lunch and Coastal Light will have strong support. Jess Higley is coming in Continued on Page Fifty Divide Delaware Valley At Garden State Park Twenty-Two Sophomores Entered In New 0,000 Sprint Stake Continued from Page Three from New York to ride Quick Lunch. He finished third in the Experimental besides his good showing in the Swift, and last season counted the Albany and Wakefield Stakes among his triumphs. Coastal Light will be handled by Sammy Boulmetis, and he has a strong local support, backed up by his recent easy triumph. Helioscope, a big, good looking son of Heliopolis and War Flower, will be attempting to keep his record unblemished. Horsemen, have opined that "there is no telling , how good he is," and this will be his first stern test. Besides Due de Fer, a few others were out for pipe-openers on the track this morning. Giant Cracker breezed three furlongs in :36, Menemsha also breezed along and was timed in :36ys, while High Gun . handily went the spin in :35. Opera Light was sent out to a half-mile, and he handily : made the run in :47.
