Ann Grier Splashes Home In Beulah Park Opener Leads Mr. Scat by Two and Half Lengths Over Sloppy Race Strip By A. L. SHIELDS Staff Correspondent BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 13. — G. Shannons Ann Grier splashed to a two and one-half lengths victory in the opening event Wednesday over the sloppy race course which prevailed here for the second straight day. Cowan and Mains Mr. Scat was the runner-up and hel dan advantage of a length over M. Lause Jr.s Malgy Malee, the choice of the estimated crowd of 4,000. The Hannon colorbrearer was ridden by John Jaurez who steadied the five-year-old daughter of Samauri to the head of the" stretch, then took her to the outside for the drive to overtake the front runners, Spriggins and Blondon who were battling for supremacy from the start. Lightly regarded, Ann Grier returned a mutuel of 6.60 and required 1:17 for the 6 furlongs. D. Schmidts Silver Ronald, a mild second choice captured the second event to complete the Daily Double which returned a payoff of 00.80 to the holders of the 3-4 combination. Silver Ronald, a seven-year-old Silver Bull — Odee gelding, was handled by the capable Harrel Bolin and led R. W. Reeves Devils Pace to the wire by two lengths. R. Spaldings Roman Fun, a rank outsider in the wagering, was third three lengths farther back. Devils Pace was hustled to the lead a few strides from the starting gate but Bolin hadw Silver Ronald right after the pacemaker to whittle down the early lead and then took command entering the stretch and widened the advantage to two lengths while under a steady drive. Rock Ada, the favorite reached the contenders in the stretch drive and failed to respond when Paul Herron set her down for the drive. Silver Ronald was timed in 1:16 for the 6 furlongs journey and rewarded his followers with a straight payoff of .00.
