I. N. Y., May 13. — The sixty-first running of the 6,800 International Steeplechase Handicap, initial through the field fixture, and the ,500 Faireno Handicap will co-feature a splendid Thursday program at this rpacious Long Island course. Five better-class jumpers are scheduled to meet in the International at about two and one-eighth miles, while an even dozen middle-distance rjerformers will clash in the one mile Faireno. Mrs. Michael G. Walshs Independence, who compiled a good record during 1958, is the highweight for the* International at 162 pounds, while Marion duPont Scotts Montpelier representative, Shipboard, is assigned 161 pounds. Whitewood Studs Arywa, 156 pounds; i Patrice Jacobs Basil Bee, 151; R. K. Mel-I Ions improved Chambourg, 140, and Mrs. j J. H. McKnights Darubini, 133 pounds, complete the. field for the exacting stakes, which drew a list of 24 nominees when it I closed for entries. April 15. ! Chambourg, an altered seven-year-old son of Rufigi and Lettone, has been a j steady, winning jumper at hunt meetings I this spring. The Mellon stable gelding captured the Mary Melton Chase at Middle-burg, Va., April 18, earned major honors over the same course April 11 in the William Skinner Memorial and, prior to that conquest, annexed the Malverne Hill at Richmond, Va., April 4. With five starters this edition of the International will net the victorious owner 0,770.00. Jimmy Murphy will have the mount on Chambourg, Albert Foot is to handle Shipboard, Bob McDonald will ride Basil Bee, who carried Miss Jacobs silks to their first victory; Tommy Walsh is named on Independence and Danny Marzani will pilot Arywa. Darubini, who appears dangerous at the International weights, is to be ridden by Joseph Aitcheson. Mrs. Joe W. Browns Tenacious, a five-year-old homebred son of Challedon and Dorothy B. Jr., who failed to display her best form over the Jamaica strip, will spot 11 rivals from two to 15 pounds in the eight-furlong Faireno. Tenacious, good winner of the 1958 and 1959 renewals of the 0,000 New Orleans Handicap and champion of the past two Fair Grounds meetings, will take up 122 pounds in the Thurs-day~ co-feature. Included in the field named to oppose the Crescent City-owned highweight are Edward P. Taylors Windfields Farm colt, Grey Monarch,- 120, and the latters stable companion, W. Arnold Hangers Washington, 113 pounds. Also Mrs. Henry Carnegie Phipps Wheatley Stable colt, Nasco, 116; Laudy Lawrences Beau Diable, George Lewis Jeffs Uh Oh and Michael G.
