HarryGiddings,Canadian Turfman, Succumbs at 65 Scion of Prominent Racing Family Had Eight Kings Plate Winners TORONTO, Ont., June 15.— Harry Gid-dings, scion of one of Canadas oldest turf families, died suddenly today in St. Michaels Hospital. He had been suffering from a heart ailment early this spring, but was in attendance at the recent Woodbine Park meeting. Removed from his Oakville home to the hospital on Sunday, his condition grew worse, though his passing was unexpected. i Giddings was an internationally known j figure in the world of sport, principally on the turf, and throughout the South as a breeder of game cocks, a sport whjch shared his interest with racing. At- one time or another during his long career as an owner and trainer he raced at Americas leading race tracks and was a well known patron at yearling sales throughout the country. Giddings saddled eight Kings Plate winners. When first making his mark as a conditioner, he sent four Plate winners to the post for his father, Harry Giddings, Sr., St. Bass in 1911, Hearts of Oak, 1913, Bee Hive, 1914, and St. Paul in 1920. Again in 1931 and 1932 he saddled successive winners in the colors of R. W. R. Cowie. These were Froth Blower and Queens Way. He repeated two-years later with R. S. McLaughlins Horometer and eventually saddled one of his own breeding in his own colors when Ten to Ace captured the 1942 renewal. His candidates this-year, Toe the Mark and Koo Shot, failed to train satisfactorily. Last year his charge, Loid Fairmond, was second in the colors of -R. J. Speers of Winnipeg. Harry Giddings lived in Oakville, Ont., all of his life and upon the death of his father carried on the breeding and racing activities for which the establishment became noted. Giddings, who invariably joked about his age, was about 65. He is survived by his widow, Estelle, his mother and five sisters. Funeral services will be held /rom Russell and. Son funeral home, Qakyille, Ont., Friday at 2 p. m.
