1 Bay State Stakes At Suffolk Divided Dozen 2-Year-Olds in Each Section of Kindergarten; Nirgal Lad, Oclirock Named By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent i SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston. Mass.. May 22.— The sixth edition of the 0,000 Bay State Kindergarten Stakes, a juvenile dash at five furlongs, will be offered here tomorrow, and it will mark the second time it has been necessary to run the event in two divisions. Twenty-four of the original 36 nominations remained eligible for the Bay State and officials decided to run a dozen in each division. The first end of the stakes will be run as the sixth race and will have 10 separate interests. The second division of the event, with one coupling, will be the seventh race on the card. The complete lineup for the first division of the Bay State is composed of C. T. Chen-erys Red Mountain, A. J. Ostrikers Oclirock, Cherry Oca Stables Helentar, Emerald Hill Stables Eldon M.. O. L. Fosters Repelled, Irving Gushens Cold Jack. I. C. McMahans Popular Joe, Murlogg Farms Cant Please, the latter pair being trained by Odie Clelland and coupled; J. J. Nashs Trained, Mrs. Jim OBreys Wild Jimbo. V. Posner and M. Colvins Swift Steve, and Mrs. P. A. Schiros Sir Country. Jim OBrey trains Wild Jimba and Swift Steve, hence they will run as another entry. The second and probably the better division of the Kindergarten has T. A. Sears Nirgal Lad, Gushens Arthur S. and Halara. Bar-Sue Stables Thatsmybabe. Cali York Stables Elgeoan. Chenerys Cloud Cap. Circle K Farms Mighty Ike, G. S. Colellas Switch On, W. L. Huntleys Bill H. Jr.. A. E. Hursts Sky Faith. McMahan.s Joes Crest, and Posner and Colvins Gailsig. Trained by Eddie Smith Nirgal Lad, conditioned by the former jockey, Eddie Smith, boasts the best record in the second half of the stake. A bay son of Nirgal — Fantomas, and bred by Ira Dry-mon, Nirgal Lad has posted three victories in four starts. His lone defeat was by Arthur S. over the local strip. The Gushen colt, a bay son of Alsab — Darby Danae, bred by Doug M. Davis, Jr., has met the Sears colt three times and finished second twice. In addition to that pair of youngsters renewing their feud in the Bay State, Dick McLaughlin, trying to protect a lead in the local jockeys race, will ride Arthur S., and his chief rival for local honors, Tony De-Spirito, is slated to handle Nirgal Lad. In addition to the top mentioned pair. Switch On, Mighty Ike and Halara have been local winners. Of this group, Switch On turned in the most recent impressive race, finishing stoutly in his last, although failing to earn a money position. Joes Crest may have been bothered slightly in his debut on Thursday when a serious spill occurred soon after the start of his race. The son of Joes Choice turned in a good effort in that race and was possibly a trifle ; short. At any rate, he can not be over-. looked in tomorrows fray. The first division of the Bay State may prove very interesting because of the appearance of Oclirock, a swift Florida-bred ! son of Nelson Dunstan. The invader has i i i had more experience than his rivals, hav-, i i ing begun his career in winning fashion at Hialeah Park last winter, finishing second • in one of two Gulf stream Park starts. : boasting a win and two bang-up seconds : in four Jamaica starts, fourth in his only ! appearance at Belmont Park and second to Due de Fer at Garden State Park last : Saturday. » Of the locals expected to make it inter - esting for Oclirock, Cant Please looms as the one with the best chance, off his recent . races. A winner of a division of the Duncan • Kenner Stakes at New Orleans during the • winter, the Fighting Step — Oswell Blessed ; colt turned in a top effort here in his last to score impressively. His running mate, i Popular Joe, has not been postward offi- • cially, but it is reported that he turned in an excellent effort in a trial run in Ten- l nessee before shipping north. Another first time starter in this end of • the dash is Red Mountain, and his morn-r ing trials stamp him as a promising son of Hunters Moon IV.. bred at his owners I Virginia Farm. In addition to Oclirock and Cant Please, t the winners included in the first division ■ are Trained, twice in Florida; Swift Steve. • once here and once at Bowie; Helentar at • Suffolk Downs; Eldon M. in Florida and I Cold Jack, in his last local start.
