Hylas Performance in Debut Delights Her Owner, Dr. Curran FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., ay 31.— Hyla, a five-year-old daughter of Hypocrite— Naturjsh, owned and trained by Dr. E. F. Curran, prominent East St. Louis physician, made the initial start of her career here yesterday and one of the proudest of the more than 12,000 fans in attendance was her owner-trainer after the mare gave a bang-up performance in finishing second to the public choice, The-onetobeat. Two years ago, as a three-year-old, Hyla was the victim of a fire in one of the local barns and came out of that conflagration with burns that ranged from her withers to tail. When she made her debut the five- year-old mare gave the appearance of being a bog-tailed animal, but this is deceiving as only the edges of the tail are trimmed to keep the daughter of Hypocrite from switching the member and reopening the tender parts of the injured skin. When he was appointed a local official, Elmer Toon, who owned the mare at the time of her injury and brought her back to her present good health, sold her to Dr. Curran.
