AUDLEY STAR BEATEN Easter Stockings Third in Mid west Purse at Fairmount Park Chiclero Leads Throughout and andOrmonbird Ormonbird Finishes Second Guide Right Wins COLLINSVILLE 111 May 31 Easter Stockings the Audley Farm Stables winner of the Grainger Memorial Handicap at Churchill Downs was beaten in her first start at Fairmount Park today when as a strong favorite she lost to Chiclero Ormonbird and several others in the Midwest Purse PurseIt It was Chicleros second straight victory and this time he went a mile and seventy yards to score his triumph He led through ¬ out and was never seriously menaced Easter Stockings under some restraint in the early part failed to respond when called upon uponA A good weekend crowd was on hand handMrs Mrs R Pollards Guide Right was the win ¬ ner of the threequarters fourth race named the North Hills Country Club Purse which served as a secondary feature and it brought out five of the higher grade threeyearolds among them Eddie Kanes Bub McFarland which finished third Frankie Serembas Judge Dixon was second secondIt It was the first winner of the afternoon for apprentice Buddy Hanford and he gave a skillful exhibition of riding taking the winner off the pace and reserving his final run to the last eighth where he put the son of Sand Mole under pressure and took the lead to win by a length Serembas colt held on with good courage to get the place with Bub McFarland getting up in time to be third Travado and Blue Ash rounded out the field fieldEd Ed Medians consistent sprinter Ossie H increased his score to four victories out of five starts when he easily defeated a band of the lower grade platers in the three quarters first race The Sloon raced to the place with Domina third thirdThe The Moon was the one to show the way during the opening half and enjoyed what appeared a safe lead but Ossie H under slight restraint responded to Cimeraks urg ¬ ing and easily drew up to even terms and then past to win easily by a length lengthBetting Betting judgment of the patrons was vin ¬ dicated for they played the winner confi ¬ dently Continued on twentyfourth page AUDLEY STAR BEATEN Continued from first page W J Hughes saddled another winner when J Leiters Princess Peroxide made it two straight scoring over eight others of her age in the fiveeighths second race J Buil lens Civollag finished second after running extremely wide entering the stretch and Red Chili the favorite finished third thirdG G Fowler who had the mount on the win ¬ ner got her to running at full speed soon after the start and she took a long lead set ¬ ting the pace under slight restraint She continued without urging to a six lengths victory Civollag might have been a more serious factor but for his maneuver at the stretch turn where he suffered a great loss of ground Although he recovered quickly and came with a belated rush at the end he did not seriously threaten the winner Red I Chili failed to race to expectations and was outrun throughout Too Much Talk and Alton a grand looking pair from the Black Dot Stable turned in good efforts for their initial starts startsA A thrilling finish resulted with the running of the threequarters third race when the Blue Star Stables Essie and Clayton Mor ¬ ris Ultimate Vote came to the judges so closely aligned that only the officials could separate them Essie was the one to get the decision While the threeyearold was forc ¬ ing the winner to her utmost the heavily supported Genuine was disposing of Theo Rochester for third money The moneyThe start was a good one and Theo Rochester sprinted to the front with Genuine right after him Ultimate Vote was taken back off the pace and reserved for a final run They maintained this order of running until the final quarter was reached when Buddy Hanford was forced to ease his mount back on account of the saddle slipping This accident played a prominent part in his defeat defeatIt It was at this point that Essie had moved to the leaders and sped by Genuine It was apparent that the latter was through and he was supplanted by Ultimate Vote as the runnerup The latter continued with good speed and made a game challenge which brought him within inches of victory
