THORNCLIFFE MEETING ENDS Samoan Wins Third Consecutive Purse in Prince of Wales plate, Finale of Session. TORONTO, Ont, June 9. Coming back with a performance that overshadowed any of his other victories this season, Edward F. Seagrams consistent three-year-old Samoan raced his way to his most important success this year when he accounted for the sixth running of the ,500 added Prince of Wales Plate, a gallop of one mile and a sixteenth that attracted a half dozen members of the Canadian-bred three-year-old division and which served as the premier attraction on the final program of the Thorncliffe Racing and Breeders Association spring meeting today. The victory for the son of Spey Pearl and Samoa marked his third consecutive triumph in his last three attempts and his victory enriched his earnings by ,920 when he carried 116 pounds and reached the end of the journey leading H. C. Hatchs Penabud, which raced coupled with Monsweep, winner of the Kings Plate, while third went to A. J. Halliwells No Retreat. The others under colors, including the Kings Plate winner, were Ladymuch and" Stormblown, and both of them were capable of heading the winner of the Guineas." The renewal of the Prince of Wales Plate was one of the best since the inception of that valuable fixture, and it was instrumental in luring a large getaway day throng to the picturesque inter-city plant for the last day of the spring sport that was successful in every respect. Samoan ruled the wagering in the feature, and he was responsible for a six-minute delay before he could be persuaded to enter his stall space with the others in the small field. With him in line a good start was gained, and it found the Seagram colt first away and able to take up the van position at once. Penabud was sent after the son of Spey Pearl, while Monsweep held to third place under his top impost of 128 pounds, and Ladymuch headed both Storm-blown and No Retreat. Through the run down the far side, Samoan and Penabud moved along as a team and until reaching the final turn, there was little to choose between them as they raced clear of the others. Both riders were hard at work at the elbow and it was here that the first change in the running occurred when No Retreat swept into third place. Reaching the stretch the leaders were still lapped, as they unleashed their best speed, and it was in the last gruelling furlong that Samoan showed his quality when he drew away steadily to step over the line holding a full length advantage over his sturdy adversary.
