MYRTLEWOOD IN FAST TRIAL Quickstep Handicap Winner Gallops Seven-Eighths in 1:27, Preparing for Enquirer. LATONIA, Ky., June 9. Brownell Combs four-year-old filly Myrtlewood, winner of the Quickstep Handicap in easy fashion, gave a brilliant trial this, morning over the La-tbnia course in preparation for the renewal of the ,000 added Enquirer Handicap, scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Latonia. The bay daughter of Blue Larkspur Frizeur was timed in the following fractions for the mile work: The quarter in :23, half in :48J,S, five furlongs in 1:01, three-quarters in 1:13, seven furlongs in 1:27, and went out the eight furlongs in 1:41 in handy fashion. Myrtlewood came into prominence last year as the result of her two match races with Clang, winning one decision by a. nose in record time and then suffering a defeat under similar circumstances in the second engagement. The trial recorded by Myrtlewood was one "of the best of the training period Tuesday morning and indicates that the filly is in fine fettle at present. She is regarded as virtually certain to be among the contestants in the Enquirer Handicap Saturday. Myrtlewood has been given top impost of 121 pounds by handicapper William H. Shelley for the impending stake engagement.
