ANEROID HANDICAP WINNER Outruns Crack Band of Sprinters in Danbury Purse at Agawam Good Weather Prevails. AGAWAM, Mass., June 9. Aneroid, which performs for Edward Bruner, stamped himself as one of the best handicap horses now performing at Agawam Park, when he turned in one of his best races to defeat a good band of sprinters that faced the barrier in the Danbury Purse, feature of the afternoon. Wise Anne, from the Mrs. W. C. Weant stable, was a length and a half back in second place, while she in turn beat Mrs. E. Haughtons Pharatime, with the well fancied Golden Fate fourth. Richstrike was the early pacemaker, showing the way for a quarter of a mile before relinquishing the lead to Aneroid, which had moved up on the outside. Once in front there was little left to the race. Booker, who had the mount, sat still and steadied his mount along while watching the frantic efforts of Wise Anne to reach, him. The Weant filly always was in the first flight, never more than a length and a half off the leaders at any time, but though she gave her best in the stretch she could not get up. The big disappointment in the race was the dull effort put forth by Golden Fate, which on his previous appearance defeated a much better field, but at no time during the Tunning was he ever a serious contender. Beginning well, he dropped back until between calls he showed in last place, then came with a belated rush through the stretch that carried him up to fourth place in a manner that showed with a more energetic ride he might have made it interesting for the three placed horses. Delightful mid-summer weather still held sway and while the crowd for the earlier races of the afternoon was light, it grew rapidly in numbers and when the feature event went to the post fully 8,000 were gathered within the grandstand enclosure. . .
