OMAHA POLICY IS SUCCESSFUL Days Set Aside for Various Sections of Nebraska and Iowa- Jockey F. Grill in Limelight. OMAHA, Neb., June 9. Following their policy of setting aside special days for different sections of Nebraska and Iowa, the management of Ak-Sar-Ben has named Thursday as Southwestern Iowa Day at the races, and hundreds of people are expected to cross the Missouri river to view the sport at. Ak-Sar-Ben field. The first of such days held Monday proved a success and the plan will be carried on throughout the season. Jockey F. Grill, who has been riding in good form at this meeting, piloted the first two winners at Ak-Sar-Ben field Tuesday when he won the opener with Silver Banquet and came back to register in the second with Quindaro. Both paid good prices. Silver Banquet, which had failed after making the pace several times since the meeting began, managed to last under Grills handling, although the race was a half furlong farther than those in which she had previously been engaged. Quindaro beat the favored Miss Balko in the second race, when McCown, on the - latter, resorted to suicidal pacemaking tactics and his mount had little left at the end. Miss Balko was an odds-on choice. A heavy rainstorm, which visited this section Tuesday morning, turned the-track into a sea of mud. The storm hit during morning work hours after the skies had turned as black as night and exercise gallops had to be suspended. Following the downpour, the weather turned very cool and outer wraps were necessary for comfort.
