J. L ROBERTS SUSPENDED Trainer and Horses Barred at Hawthorne Case Referred to Illinois Racing Commission. r The trainers license of J. L. Roberts is suspended, the horses he had registered with the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association barred from racing at Hawthorne during the current meeting and the case referred to the state racing commission under a ruling of stewards C. J. FitzGerald, C. W. Hay and J. G. Reeder, as announced at Hawthorne Thursday afternoon. The ruling follows: "A saliva test on Lee Laffoon, winner of the sixth race on June 22, showing a positive reaction to strychnine, the entry of this horse and all other horses owned or trained by J. L. Roberts will not be received at the current Hawthorne meeting. The trainers license of J. L. Roberts stands suspended and the case is referred to the Illinois Racing Commission for any further action it may deem necessary in the premises. Signed "C. J. FitzGerald, "C. W. Hay, "Julius G. Reeder, "Board of Stewards." Roberts, who registered at Hawthorne from Roxbury. Mass., had the following horses registered: Prince Cador, Linlace, Tugboat Frank, Continuity, Cablegram, Lee Laffoon, Mars Palatine, Hokuao and Sea Fox. He started Tugboat Frank in the Chicago Derby here last Saturday, and his entire string was shipped from Hawthorne a few days ago, with Suffolk Downs the reported destination.
