DREEL PROVES BARGAIN CLAIM Wins Again at Suffolk Downs in Silks of D. J. Sullivan III. Accounts for North Shore Handicap by Neck Over Candy Prince Rough Party Buns Third. BOSTON, Mass., June 25. Dreel, the outstanding bargain claim of the New England season, won his second victory in the silks of D. J. Sullivan III. when he drove to victory a neck in front of H. T. Archibalds Candy Prince in the North Shore Handicap, which featured todays sport at Suffolk Downs. Hightshoe had to work his way up gradually to effect the score and his ride was one of the best that he has turned in to date. He rated the Trojan gelding perfectly, laying well back of the pace of Candy Prince until they hit the turn and then moving up on the outside. He was at his mount vigorously in the stretch to have him clear at the finish. J. Y. Christmas Rough Party, light weight of the field, was scratched from a softer spot to await the feature. He finished third, turning in an excellent race under Ken McCombs. Candy Prince went out to make a runaway of the event. He began in front and Cooper was rating the gray along as they galloped down the back stretch. Enthusiasm, showing his usual early speed and his usual faint-heartedness, was right after the leaders, but tired after a half, finishing next to last. When the latter quit Dreel moved up to second and, finishing stoutly, continued to gain as they came down the stretch, though the pacemaking Candy Prince held on stubbornly. The winner bore over slightly on Fickle Chance midway in the stretch, but the Pollard racer was a beaten horse at the time. Rough Party did not have enough class to win the race, but turned in a good effort in taking third. The race was run in 1:12. Home Loan, Bachelor Dinner and Wacoche, the other starters, never figured in the running. Windsor Farms Double Scotch was rated one of the best things of the meeting by the sharpshooters and he made good in the first event on the card, sprinting home half a length to the good of Willis Sharpe Kilmers Sun Capture. J. U. Grattons Noel H. was third in the field of ten. Sun Capture set all the pace, but Knott had Double Scotch right after him and they came into the stretch on almost even terms. They battled for home hammer and tongs, but Double Scotch had 1 the most left in the final seventy yards and drew off to victory. The race was run in the fast time of :594i. The string-halted hoss is still what he used to be. Blue Day, from A. G. Tarns successful stable, made it seven in a row in New England when the eight-year-old raced to an effortless score in the second event. At the end he was buck-jumping under Johnny Longden to score by four lengths going away. They tried to beat him today with the Lone Star Stables Fitter Pat, but the best the latter could do was finish fourth in the five-horse field, quitting to a walk after threatening briefly. B. J. Hills Postscript was second, beating Synod by a half length for the runner-up award. Retired scored a front-running victory in the six-furlong second event, carrying the silks of Mrs. E. E. Russell to a two and one-half lengths score over Hymie Neusteters Narise. Movie Lass, under the jacket of I Colin J. MacLeod, was third, beaten half a length for the second award. Balanced Budget, heavily supported, finished fourth in the field of ten. Retired. romped along in the van from the start. She led by about three lengths down the back stretch. Lum Joy chased her for a quarter, then quit, and Narise moved to second place. As they rounded the turn it was Retired, Narise and Movie Lass and they remained in the same order all down the lane for home. Jolly drove home under the silks of Felix Spatola in the fourth event, coming from behind to take the measure of C. V. Whitneys Fiss Otis by half a length. Leo J. Marks Makeit finished third and the disappointing Forced Landing, after appearing to be a winner at the turn, was fourth. C. Hanford brought W. Elliotts Xandra from behind the pace to beat F. J. Estes Glynson by a length in a stirring finish in the mile and a. sixteenth event, which, was sixth on the program. B. J. Hills Hy-marque, which set most of the pace, finished third, and Long Bit, which was in the early contention, finished fourth. The distance-running Hut once more found the route too short and ran last in the field of five. Long Bit began in front and led to midway on the back stretch. At that point Hymarque moved to the Ladkin mare and assumed the lead, which she held until they entered the stretch. There Hightshoe drove up on Glynson. He had the lead as they came into the home lane, but Xandra was moving up and running easiest of all. She was drawing away to score in the last seventy yards. The time was 1:46.
