! FOREIGN TURF NOTES 5 Gordon Richards heads the English jockeys with a total of sixty-two winning mounts up to June 12. His nearest rival, J. Sterrit, has thirty-two for the same period. Fairway, by Phalaris Scapa Flow, has a big lead for the stallion honors of the year in England. His progeny have won twelve races and 38,725. Blenhiem is next on the list with four winners of four races and 6,500. Mahmoud, the Epsom Derby winner of 1936, will be retired to the stud next year and stand at the Egerton Stud, Newmarket, at a fee of ,500. The totalizator handle for the four days at Royal Ascot was ,129,250, an increase of 29,170 over last year. This is a remarkable showing when it is taken into consideration that bookmakers were also operating, both systems being used on English tracks. It has been reported that Wiiliam Woodward will keep his great coll, Omaha, in England until next year for another try at the Ascot Gold Cup..
