HIRSCH JACOBS NEARS MARK Youthful Conditioner Has 139 Winners to His Credit Only Eight Behind All-Time Record. With the return of racing to New York proper Hlrsch Jacobs came into the limelight once again, having sent twenty-three winners to the post during the period from September 1 to October 6. Thus his total to date stands at 139, which is only eight less than the all-time record of 147 set by the late C. B. Irwin back in. .1923. It seems safe to predict that the youthful conditioner will better the present mark, as he has always enjoyed marked success at both Jamaica and Empire City. There Is hardly a possibility of any other trainer giving Jacobs any kind of an argument for honors in 1936 as he is at present fifty-six ahead of his nearest rival, A. G. Tarn, the Canadian sportsman, who has eighty-three winners to his credit. The latter sent but five winners to the post during the time that Jacobs was saddling twenty-three, J. H. "Bud" Stotler, who handles the training affairs of the A. G. Vanderbilt string, holds third place, having had seven winners during the aforementioned period, for a years total of seventy-seven. Ben Jones, ace man for the T. C. Wordcn interests, enjoyed considerable success at the Chicago tracks, having had twelve of his charges enter the winners circle. Jones now has seventy-two winners to his credit, being but five behind Stotler for third place. Bert Michell advanced from twelfth to eighth position, having had twelve of his charges garner winning laurels. He now has fifty-nine winners to his credit.
