I I J c ,. j t . " j j s J j , . J ; , : BILLBO PROBABLE FAVORITE Illinois Horses May Have Difficult , Task Winning Marquette Hand-icap at Lincoln Fields. CRETE, 111., Oct 8. So far during the Lincoln Fields race meeting Illinois-owned horses have had their troubles as far as stake engagements are concerned. Four stakes have been run, with one more coming up, and of these, three have gone to thoroughbreds from Kentucky. It now behooves some Illinois horse to take the ,500 added Marquette Handicap Saturday, the closing day of the meeting, to even up the score somewhat before the major racing season comes to an end in Chicago. The Marquette shapes up as a tough race for any Illinois horse to win. Thoroughbreds .from Louisiana, Kentucky, New York and Colorado rate highly for the mile and one-eighth event, longest stake of the meeting. There is Billbo, owned by Frank P. Letel-lier of New Orleans. Right now it appears that Billbo, off his last victory, at a mile, may go to the post one of the favorites. Then there is the Rosedale Stable entry of Silk Mask and Bandalore, and they have shown enough to merit serious consideration. The Rosedale Stable is owned by the wealthy New Yorker George Clark. The Coloradoan R. C. Thatcher also appears to have a strong hand for the Marquette in his Fra Diavoio. So far the distance has not been too far for this son of Diavolo-r-Golden Feast The departure of Mucho Gusto, Kentuckys double stakes winner, makes the Marquette Handicap the most open feature of the meeting. Against those mentioned above are the Illinois-owned Banish Fear, Prince Torch, Capt. Cal, Songmaker, Maple Ricca, Lady Montrose, Spanish Babe, Salaam and Countess Ann. Kentucky horses have won the last three Crete stakes, the .successful ones being Mucho GusloV owned by Mrs. Kirby Ramsey, which took two, and Merina, owned by Mrs. William Crump. Prospects are for a field of about a dozen in the Marquette. The probable field follows: Horse. Wt Owner.
