K E E nILa N D TOTAUZ AT0R FIRST IN BLUE GRASS j - LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct 8. Installation of the totalizator has been completed at Keene-land race course here, and first tests of the electrically controlled and operated pari-mu-tuel betting device were made today. Completion of the totalizator unit put the new Lexington track in readiness for its inaugural race meeting that will open Thursday, October 15. Keeneland will be the first Kentucky race track to use the "tote" form of betting, which was first introduced to American race tracks four years ago at Arlington Park in Chicago. Since installed at the Chicago course the totalizator has been adapted by many of the countrys leading tracks. Keenelands meeting will open with the running of the Keene Stakes, ,000 added, a sprint of six furlongs, for three-year-olds and over. Three other stakes are scheduled to be decided during the nine-day program which ends Saturday, October 24. The second stakes attraction will be the Ashland Stakes, ,500 added, for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and over, at one and one-sixteenth miles, on Saturday, October 17. The Breeders Stakes, ,000 added, highlight on the card, will be raced for on Wednesday, October 21. Only full colts and fillies are eligible for the Breeders. The final stakes will be the Lexington, ,500 added, for juveniles, to be run on Saturday, October 24. The Breeders will be at one and one-quarter miles, and the Lexington at six furlongs.
