I EPSOM DOWNS TURF NOTES f 8 1, Failure to produce the registration papers for Red Wing Sir, a scheduled starter in the opening race Tuesday, resulted in the stewards ordering the bay two-year-old withdrawn from competition shortly before post time. According to the reports of several trainers, a coughing epidemic is sweeping the barns at Epsom Downs, which is responsible for the difficulty experienced in filling the races during the past few days. Among the turfmen who have reported ailing thoroughbreds are H. O. Simmons, E. B. Shipp, Z. E. McGregor, H. W. Wilkerson and several others. Among the arrivals from New England is R. Tutty, who checked in from Rockingham Park Tuesday morning and stated that he will look over some two-year-olds while here, with the view of purchasing at least two for racing on the west coast during the winter. Starter Val Sulich conducts his school for fractious thoroughbreds for two hours every morning except Sunday. Through an error the two-year-old colt Ford Rosemont was registered with the Epsom Downs racing secretary as Stamford. The juvenile Stamworth was investigated and it was shown that the son of Stamford Miss Roseworth is registered with The Jockey Club as Ford Rosemont. Bobby Manziel, oil operator and sportsman of Glade Water, Texas, who has several horses in charge of Ralph Lentini, was expected from his home Wedneday for a visit of several days. The Manziel two-year-old Quindaro, which is well thought of, Is due to make some races. Bunty Ann and Morley Firth, two sprinters in the stable of Mrs. E. B. Shipp which suffered slight cuts in their recent starts, are recovering rapidly and. will be ready to resume training shortly.
