DENEMARK SILKS FIRST Frank Gilpin Saddles Initial Winner for Chicago Owner. Radio Charm, Moslem Temple Stakes Eligible, Easy Winner of Detroits Thursday Feature. DETROIT, Mich., June 17. Radio Charm, Mrs. Emil Denemarks good son of Jean Lafitte, which was a factor in Florida racing and is eligible for the Moslem Temple Stakes, became the first victor to be saddled by Frank Gilpin when he was an easy and popular winner of the Preparation Purse, Detroits main attraction this afternoon. Ridden by Sidney Hebert, who also recently joined the Denemark stable, Radio Charm set his own pace, raced through the muddy going in the creditable time of 1:01 and reached the end of five furlongs two and, a half lengths before J. E. Millers Unassisted, the leading two-year-old of New Orleans winter season. Dixianas Fly Time, which had Cup Defender as a companion, was third, eight lengths back of Unassisted and slightly less than a length before Hal Price Headleys Dorothy Rock, which saved fourth from Sir George, Cup Defender, Sir Bevidere, Fern Star and Hi Cliff. NEVER FACTORS. Radio Charm and Unassisted dominated the pace from the start, with Dorothy Rock moving into third place on the far turn. However, she gave way to Fly Time, which, like several others, lost ground throughout. Sir Bevidere. showed speed for a quarter, but the others of the field of nine which accepted under allowance conditions were never factors. As the field reached the finish a heavy downpour drove the patrons to cover and threatening weather caused many to leave for their homes. Heavy rains during the early morning hours and several hard showers until early noontime riddled the well-balanced card offered at Detroit this afternoon. The sun shone intermittently until nearly post time for the opening event, but the skies became overcast thereafter. The racing strip was left in a muddy condition, and with more sunshine probably would have improved during the afternoon. MORE GAY SURPRISES. The contest, for three-year-olds that have not won a race other than maiden or claiming, resulted in the first big surprise, when Irving Korts More Gay, the son of Morvich and Gay Nineties, led throughout to defeat Jadva, which raced with him in head-and-head fashion, by a head. Linas Son was third, a half length back of Jadva and six lengths before Late Day. A bad lot of maiden plater three-year-olds were under colors in the first race, but it resulted in a popular score when Fred M. Alger, Jr.s Molecule, a daughter of Infinite and Dickey Lee, got up in the last stride to beat Ruby Peto by a nose at the end of six furlongs. Red Brook was third, some Continued on twenty-fifth page. DENEMARK SILKS FIRST Continued from first page. three lengths back of the winner and two lengths before Hood Cover, which finished fourth. Brides Delight found a track to her liking, and she scored another victory for the talent when she turned back Norman D., Royal Link and four others at the end, of the three-quarters second race.
