5 OMAHA TURF NOTES s The only woman trainer on the grounds at Ak-Sar-Ben, Miss Jeannette Reed, broke into the win column last week when her Prince Peacock scored a victory! Miss Reed trains for her father, Perry Reed, owner of the Ak-Sar-Ben Stable, and secretary of the Nebraska state fair. Homer Southwick of Friend, Neb., secretary of the Nebraska Thoroughbred Breeders Association, is busily engaged in working out plans for the 1939 Nebraska Bred Futurity, entries for which close August 1st. The Futurity will be staged at the State Fair race meet at Lincoln in September, 1939. A special handicap for Nebraska-bred three-year-olds, with a 00 added purse, will be staged at next years Ak-Sar-Ben meeting. Entries will close on July 1. Jockey E. Brakeman, who hails from Grand Island, Neb., rode his first winner at the present meeting. Phil Gossard, who had the contract on Brakeman, sold it to C. S. Williams of Harrison, Neb., sheriff of Sioux County. One of the newer Nebraska horsemen in the business is H. Nellor of Beemer, Neb., who started last year and now has such good horses here as The Millay, Albino, Chicken Lady, Ultra Vote, Just Marie and Wild Love.
