Derby Honors I Herewith are the records of the prospective contestants in the American Derby at Washington Park Saturday: CASE ACE, b. c, by Teddy Sweetheart, . by Ultimus. Owned by Milky Way Farm. 1937 record: starts, 4; won, 3; unplaced, 1. Money won, 1,290. Winner of the Arlington Futurity as a juvenile, Case Ace made his 1937 debut at Santa Anita by winning at six furlongs. On the occasion of his next start, at Arlington Downs, he was fourth to older horses. Case Ace then captured his next start, at Churchill Downs, at seven furlongs, and went on to win the Illinois Derby at Aurora, running a mile and a furlong in 1:51 and beating Grey Count by si neck MARS SHIELD, br. f, by Diavolo Escutcheon, by Sir Gallahad ni. Owned by Milky Way Farm. 1937 record: starts, 8; won, 4; second, 1; third, 2; unplaced, 1. Money won, 7,315. Mars Shield won one race in five starts as a juvenile. This year she made her debut at Santa Anita, where she won two races in four starts and was third twice. Coming to Texas, she bowed to Robert L. by a nose in her first try there and then came back to win the Texas Derby by three-quarters of a length from Heelfly, running a mile and a furlong in 1:50. She won drawing out. In the Clark Handicap she ran sixth to Count Morse, making up some ground, and then capturing the Kentucky Oaks by three lengths in 1:53 over a good track, closing fast. DAWN PLAY, br. f, by Clock Tower Gun Play, by Man o War. Owned by King Ranch. 1937 record: starts, 4; won, 2; second, 1; unplaced, 1. Money won, 0,875. Dawn Play won one start out of nine as a juvenile, but was always well up. This year she raced first at Jamaica, finishing second second to Royal Raiment in an overnight race, then running fifth to Bagpipe at six furlongs, beaten less than a length. Her third start was a win in the Acorn Stakes, from Royal Raiment, coming from behind to score in 1:38 for a mile. Next she won the Coaching Club American Oaks by five lengths easily in 2:18 for a mile and three-eighths. EAGLE PASS, ch. c, by Night Flyer Miss Simplicity, by Spur. Owned by Valdina Farms. 1937 record: starts, 15; won, 6; second, 2; third, 1; unplaced, 6. Money won, ,730. Eagle Pass won two out of eight races last year and then came along fast this season after a slow beginning. He reached his best form at Churchill Downs, winning three in a row, beating Grey Count by five lengths in one start and older horses in two others by coming from behind. At Washington Park he was second to Count Morse in the Blue and Gray, a length and a half back. In the Latonia Derby he came from far back finish second to Reaping Reward by half a length in 2:03 over a good track. OVER THE TOP, ch. c, by Man o War Cresta, by Whisk Broom n. Owned by Mrs. W. H. Over the Top won one out of five last year. This year, after winning his first start, he raced third to War Admiral arid Court Scandal in the Chesapeake Stakes. He -was purchased from the Glen Riddle Farms by Mrs. Furst and "started in the" Preakness, where he finished fifth. Shipped west, he showed fine form at Washington Park, beating Mili-I tary at one mile in 1:37 over a good track. In the Latonia Derby Over the Top made up much ground to finish fourth, beaten less than a length. DELLOR, br. c, by Rolled Stocking Gossip Avenue, by Bulse. Owned by J. W. Par-rish. 1937 record: starts, 14; won, 3; second, ,3; third, 3; unplaced, 5. Money won, ,400. This will be Dellors fourth Derby, as he has competed . in the Kentucky, Illinois and j Latonia events. Dellors early starts were in Florida, where he won two races. Since then his most notable efforts were a second to Count Morse in the Ben Ali Handicap at Keeneland, and a victory over Reaping Reward in the Derby Trial. He was seventh in the Kentucky Derby, fifth in the Illinois Derby and fifth in the Latonia Derby. Prefers soft footing. GREY GOLD, ch. c, by Sir Greysteel Crock b Gold, by Friar Rock. Owned by E. W. Duffy. 1937 record: starts, 6; won, 3; third, 1; unplaced, 2. Money won, ,675. Grey Gold made his debut this year in sensational fashion by beating Billionaire and Brooklyn at Keeneland. He raced fourteenth in the Kentucky Derby, then went to Detroit where j he won two out. of three, the most recent coming Wednesday, when he ran six furlongs in 1:13, to win drawing away. BURNING STAR, ch. c, by Burning Blaze Ovena, by The Porter. Owned by Shandon Farm. 1937 record: starts, 6; won, 2; second, 2; third, 1; unplaced, 1. Money won, ,725. Burning Star has been in the money in every start but the Kentucky Derby, when he ran eighth. Since then he won one race ; Washington Park, ran third to Solar Hawk and second twice to War Minstrel. SUNSET TRAIL H., ch. c, by Silver Stead Sundergain, by Gainsborough. Owned by Raoul Walsh. 1937 record: starts, 11; won, 2; unplaced, 9. Money won, ,855. This imported colt raced five times as a juvenile, winning one. Both his wins this year were on the West Coast, the first in an allowance race at Santa Anita, the second in the Tanforan three-year-old championship stake, when he won in 1:46 for a mile and a sixteenth over a good track, finishing fast. He ran sixteenth in the Kentucky Derby, finished a creditable fourth in the Illinois Derby, making up some ground, and then ran fourth at Washington Park in an overnight race. His most recent effort found him tenth in the Latonia Derby. YELLOW TULIP, ch. c, by Jean Valjean Yellow Blossom, by Luke McLuke. Owned iby Bomar Stable. 1937 record: starts, 2; third, 1; unplaced, 1. Money won, 00. A consistent juvenile, Yellow Tulip won the Wyandotte Handicap at Detroit and showed a money effort in seven other stakes, including the Pimlico Futurity, Prairie State Stakes and Hawthorne Juvenile. His first start this year was at Hialeah in January, when he ran third to Bernard F. at seven furlongs on a slow track. His next start was at Washington Park, when he ran eighth this week over a good track in the rain. Prefers a fast track and has not started on one this year. Will not start in Derby unless track is fast. TEDDY GREEN, br. c, by Teddy Green Girl, by John P. Grier. Owned by Tranquillity Farm. 1937 record: starts, 11; won, 2; second, 1; third, 2; unplaced, 6. Money won, ,875. Teddy Green won two races in 18 starts as a juvenile, being in the money on seven other occasions. This year he raced at Santa Anita, running third to Mars Shield in one effort, beaten a length in 1:37 for a mile after setting the pace. His first win was scored at Keeneland. Coming to Washington Park he raced fourth to Sir Midas, then scored impressively at seven furlongs in 1:24 over a good track. His most recent start found him fifth to Grey Count at one mile and except for bearing over, would have been more of a factor.
