INCHES SEPARATE LEADERS Pass Em By Gets Nose Decision Over Upside Down at Agawam Cook Pilots Two Winners. AGAWAM, Mass., June 17. Racing six furlongs in the good time of 1:12 and showing the same brilliant speed that characterized his winning races this season, Pass Em By, son of Bypass II. and Step Lively, racing in the silks of Joseph Green, kept his winning streak unbroken this year and stamped himself as the best sprinter on the grounds. He defeated five other shifty sprinters to account for the featured West- field Purse under allowance, conditions at j Agawam Park today. Heavily backed and i going postward a short-priced -favorite, the I Green sprinter was extended to the limit to score In one of the most exciting finishes of the day. It was by the shortest possible margin that he earned the decision over A. C. Bostwicks Upside Down after they finished in 1:12, the fastest time for the distance recorded at this session. While the first two were separated by inches, close at their heels came Dunna-many, of the G. L. Stryker Stable, to land third from Unheralded as Miss Premier and Little Argo completed the small but best field of the day. A short delay occurred before the half dozen starters were sent on their journey, and with more speed than he had shown in his previous efforts, Pass Em By accomplished the burden of setting the pace, and provided a swift one as jockey C. Eye permitted the colt to step away at his best pace. Upside Down chased after the son of Bypass II. and on the turn drove up on the inside to be closely lapped. Pass Em By was under pressure approaching the stretch, and jockey Eye was experiencing some difficulty in keeping his mount straight. By this time Upside Down, which was to fight it out in a bitter battle, had driven fo within a head of the favorite. With the two principals abreast in the final eighth, a thrilling engagement was waged to the finish as the others closed in slowly, and it was by inches that Pass Em By gained the decision of the camera and placing judges.
