William V.Wins Dead Heat Run-Off HOMEWOOD, 111., June 17. The eighth race at Washington Park Thursday resulted in a dead heat between R. O. Higdons Miss .Firefly and Leo Beydas William V. The judges asked for no picture of the result, darkness and cloudiness precluding a distinct photograph, it was said. Afterwards at the insistence of Beyda the two horses were brought together in a run-off for the entire purse money. The run-off had no bearing on the betting, which under the rules is calculated the same as a place pool. The run-off was the second of the Chicago season, the first taking place at Aurora, where Sun Dora and Cain engaged in a similar duel after having run a dead heat. Paul Ryan was astride William V. and Sammy Roberts was aboard Miss Firefly in their dead heat and again in the run-off, which William V. won. 431882WILD TRANSIT w6106 4 5 42 42 4 65 65 PhiHipsEE R Emery 570-100 42914 SURCOUF w 5 112 217 7 7 7 7 JamesB Mrs L Thompson 650-100 tDeadheat.
