I DUFFERIN PARK TURF NOTES s Frank Ray, nephew of the well-known Nat Ray, has been engaged to train the horses of Mrs. T. Stevenson and J. C. Palmer. The appointment was made after trainer Frank Gilpin signed to handle the extensive string of Mrs. Emil Denemark of Chicago. Five thoroughbreds belonging to Art Halli-well, were shipped to Detroit Saturday. The apprentice allowance on Thermal in the first race, Smiling Star in the fifth and Chisel and Margie Lou in the seventh events on Monday, were waived. The Clark gate, which will be used at the coming Hamilton Jockey Club meeting, was shipped to that point Saturday. The gate will be used for schooling purposes by starter Thomas Rowe throughout the week. Tommy Glover has been engaged to assist racing secretary Paul Ciceri at the Hamilton session. C. O. Simpson has taken over the mare Fortune Bay to train for H. Tetley. Jockey Alfred Nash, who accepted his first mount of the meeting when he piloted P. S. Prices Barter in the third race Monday, was born and educated in England. The lad is twenty years old and makes his home in Windsor at the present time. He was leading rider at the South Kenner track in New Orleans last summer, where he rode eighteen winners, four of them coming on the final day of the meeting. Nash is connected with the stable of W. Drinkwater.
